Common warning signs include:

PD can include many signs and symptoms:
• Slower movements, including walking, speaking and basic everyday tasks. People with PD often have a characteristic gait, with a slouching posture, feet wide apart, short and heavy steps, frequently dragging both feet, along with decreased swinging of the arms and very slow turning. These difficulties are further compounded by alterations in balance and general stiffness in all muscle groups.
• Tremor, the medical term for shaking, which classically begins in one hand or the fingers, with a “pill-rolling” pattern. This tremor continues even when at rest, and tends to “travel” up a limb until it compromises both sides of the body.
• The above alterations lead to disruption of complex movements, including articulation of sounds, which often becomes monotone; and handwriting which tends to become smaller and harder to comprehend.
• Automatic movements are also lost, including blinking, smiling, and grimacing. Thus, people with PD tend to have a characteristic emotionless expression.
• In very advanced stages, PD may affect other brain areas not related to movement, and other alterations may appear, including disruptions in mood, memory, orientation, perception, and sleep.
